There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.
What you have said in the dark that will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs? These verses are not saying that all your darkest secrets are going to be on the front page of the local newspaper. They are not saying that they are not either. The intent of these words is to say that in reality you do nothing in secret. It is known and will eventually be made known to others. These verses were directed at the leaders of the religious community in Jesus’ day and it was to let them know that their lies and hypocrisy would eventually be exposed. Might not be today or tomorrow, but they would be exposed. Many of us live a life of lies. Most of them told to ourselves and those closest to us. Most of them about ourselves. We say that we don’t surf the web that much (only 18 hours a day), that we don’t eat much (just 24/7), that we can quit smoking anytime (though we crave it daily), that we only drink at social occasions (and in the backroom when no one is looking), punching our spouse happens rarely (every Friday night). These are not secrets that will stay hidden. They will be made known. Are you ready to make them known to yourself? Acknowledge what you do in secret and allow the light to shine on them to cleanse you of these and more.
