Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.
When you try to keep control of your life and dictate the terms and conditions, you can only lose it. You cannot control all the aspects of your life. When you get right down to it, you cannot control any part of it. When you think that you can beat habits on your own time, you are wrong. When you think that you have the power to conquer addictions, change others, create your own tomorrows, you lose out in the end. You cannot do that. But when you give you life (lose your life) to God, you gain so much. Giving Him control of your path, your decision making, your future ensures you a victory in the end. It doesn’t make sense? Why would I want to lose to gain? Because you are not God. You cannot see what is around the bend. You cannot control the winds and the waves. You cannot create the miracles. You cannot determine the days. Why would you want to continue being in control when your power is so limited that you are fooling yourself that there is such a thing as control when you could be giving the driver’s seat over to the One who knows no bounds and can take you to places you could only dream about?
